Boundary wall render removal and replacement, Dundee

We repaired a rendered boundary wall where sections of the old roughcast and the blockwork behind it had failed. The defective blockwork was rebuilt, the surrounding masonry prepared, and the wall finished in new dry dash roughcast to match the rest of the enclosure.

The problem

The boundary wall encloses a yard behind a row of traditional buildings. A vertical section of the wall and its roughcast had failed, leaving a gap in the finish and exposing the masonry behind it to the weather.

Our solution

The defective sections of blockwork were rebuilt, including a new blockwork panel in the failed section, and the surrounding masonry was prepared to take the new finish. The wall was then rendered and finished in a dry dash roughcast, where stone chips are thrown onto the wet render coat. We took care to keep the finish consistent across the repaired wall, to match the rest of the enclosure.

Products and systems used

Defective blockwork sections rebuilt, with a new panel in the failed section
Preparation
Surrounding masonry prepared for the new finish
Render
New render coat
Finish
Dry dash roughcast

The result

The wall is sound and weather-tight again, with an even dry dash finish along its length that matches the rest of the wall.
